BOULDER, Colorado, April 11, 2017– LogRhythm, The Security Intelligence Company, today announced that the University of Massachusetts System Office (UMSO) has chosen its Threat Lifecycle Management (TLM) platform to deliver a centralized network security service. With more than 74,000 students enrolled, the University of Massachusetts (UMass) annually contributes over $6 billion to Massachusetts’ economic activity. Symantec’s 2016 Internet Security Threat Repor identified the education sector as the second-most targeted industry globally. To defend against this threat, the UMSO needed the most comprehensive end-to-end cyber security platform available. Using a grant from the National Science Foundation, the UMSO’s goal is to implement LogRhythm’s tailored TLM platform as a managed service, which it has offered to all 24 of Massachusetts’ state universities and community colleges. Their long-term plan is to expand outside of Mass. by offering this unprecedented cyber-resource to organizations across New England. Specifically, the UMSO wanted to replace a variety of security products and tools from multiple vendors and create a centralized, education-specific TLM platform, which the UMSO would install in one location and then initially license to multiple organizations. It needed to incorporate many custom and home-grown log sources and aggregate them to a SOC dashboard to provide easy-to-understand visuals and drill-down details in real time. “From the onset, LogRhythm fully understood our vision and what it would take to succeed. Together, our teams formulated a scalable, affordable plan that closely aligned with our business model and our broader mission to improve cyber-education of the people of the Commonwealth and the region,” noted Larry Wilson, the chief information security officer at the UMass President’s Office. The UMSO needed to modernize its security operations to provide big-picture visibility across the networks of its constituents to gain actionable intelligence based on data generated by each organization. Flexibility and assured PCI-DSS and HIPAA compliance was also a critical requirement because many of its constituents operate retail and restaurant facilities, medical and healthcare centers, and bookstores. “We’re privileged to help UMass with this forward-thinking, new approach to centralized Threat Lifecycle Management,” said Chris Brazdziunas, VP of Products at LogRhythm. “We jointly developed a flexible, three-year growth plan for UMass that includes flexible licensing to accommodate their anticipated growth. LogRhythm’s uniquely scalable architecture will also allow UMass to grow its deployment in a predictable and affordable way.” |
